Kenya, Sept. 13 -- People often say that wealth transforms you, yet few understand the profound impact it has on those around you. Overnight, my life transformed from struggling to pay for bus fare to having millions in the bank. Strangers slapped me on the back, long-lost relatives popped up at my door, and neighbours whispered my name with a mix of awe and jealousy. For the first time, I thought I'd left poverty in the dust. But oh boy, was I in for a shock. At first, it was all smooth sailing.

I snagged a shiny new car, moved into a nice house, and started dreaming up businesses to keep the favourable times rolling. But just three months in, things took a wild turn. My car broke down, unfixable. My business plans were a complete failure. My business plans were complete failures, with money disappearing like smoke. I was drowning in weird debts I couldn't explain and suddenly battling illnesses that kept me in hospitals more than my own home. Every investment I attempted ultimately failed.
