
Kenya, June 1 -- I worked in government for eight years. I was loyal, dedicated, and efficient. I never thought these qualities would make me a target. Office politics can be very tough, especially for someone who does their job well. I learnt this the hard way.
My name is Richard, and in 2023, I was close to getting a big promotion. I had worked hard for it, and I knew my late father would have been proud. But just when I felt like my dreams were finally within reach, everything started to go wrong.
Suddenly, rumours began to spread at the office. People were saying terrible lies about me, things like I was leaking confidential information, forging approvals, and even being involved in corruption.
I was shocked. I thought I had no enemies. The higher-ups called me in for questioning and suspended me while they investigated. It was humiliating to be escorted out of my own office, hearing my colleagues whisper behind me.
