
Kenya, July 11 -- I was enthused about life and fresh out of university when I started working at that firm. After only four months, I was promoted to personal assistant by my boss, and I felt that my efforts had finally paid off. When I was feeling overloaded, he would check in with me and say something like, "Janet, you are the reason this office runs." He was polite, courteous, and never once crossed the queue. Being recognised felt fantastic.Subsequently, he informed me that he required my assistance to create a spectacular surprise meal for his wife's birthday. I still recall how excited I was to say "yes" and grin because I felt like I was finally a part of something more than schedules and emails. He handed me a to-do list. I was supposed to reserve the space, pick out the cake, set up the flowers, and even assist him in crafting an emotional speech. I put a lot of energy into whatever I did.
