
Kenya, Aug. 29 -- I never imagined that my life would become so terrible and humiliating. My name is Peter, and the reason I want to tell my experience is not because I am proud of it, but rather because I know that someone else is struggling with kaswende (syphilis) in silence, just like I did. It all started when I was younger and very infatuated with a stunning woman I believed would become my bride.
However, despite warnings, I disregarded her frequent phone calls, her private nightlife, and the manner she catered to wababaz (older, wealthy men). I continued to have faith in her until my body finally told me the truth. Unusual sores, a scorching agony that became worse every day, and an odour that made me despise my own body were the first symptoms.
