
Kenya, July 1 -- It has never been simple to run a business, but I always thought that if I put in the effort and treated people well, everything would work out. My little clothes store in town fared quite well for five years. I was trusted by my loyal consumers. The idea that someone close to me might almost ruin what I had created never occurred to me. When I hired a new assistant, it all began.
He came highly recommended and was introduced to me by a friend. I felt like I needed assistance since I was getting busy. Everything appeared to be alright at first. He was eager to learn and considerate. However, odd things started to happen gradually. I lost clients that I had been serving for years. Others might arrive in a rage, accusing someone of selling them counterfeit goods or insulting them. I couldn't understand. Sales declined. Perhaps it was just a difficult season, I reasoned.
