
Kenya, Aug. 23 -- I once thought that perseverance and diligent effort would always be rewarded. I was mistaken. I dutifully worked for my employer at one of Nairobi's largest corporations for six years. I was the last person to leave the office and the first person to enter. I fulfilled unreasonable deadlines, covered up his errors, and even skipped family get-togethers to finish reports. However, my recompense was shame rather than appreciation.He flourished on poisonous authority. He yelled at us at meetings, made disparaging remarks about less experienced employees, and enjoyed setting coworkers against one another. I put up with it all, though, since I had to have my job. My family was reliant on my income. I reasoned that if I remained modest, he would eventually see how faithful I was. However, I was mistaken once more.
