Kenya, June 2 -- Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika has dismissed her speechwriter with immediate effect following an embarrassing error during a public address earlier today.
The governor mistakenly referred to the Wanyororo area as "Wamunyoro" while reading from a prepared speech, prompting swift action.
The incident occurred at a public event in Nakuru town, where Kihika was addressing residents on county development projects.
The mix-up, attributed to a typo in the speech, drew murmurs from the audience and quickly spread across social media platforms, where locals expressed amusement and criticism.
In a statement issued to the media, Governor Kihika confirmed the termination of the speechwriter, citing negligence and failure to ensure accuracy.
"Such errors are unacceptable and undermine the professionalism of my office," Kihika said, emphasising her commitment to maintaining high standards in communication.
The sacked speechwriter has not issued a public response. County officials have announced that a replacement will be appointed soon to ensure seamless operations.
The blunder has sparked discussions among Nakuru residents, with some calling for stricter oversight in the governor's communications team.
This is not the first time Kihika's administration has faced scrutiny over public relations mishaps, raising questions about internal processes.
