Kenya, June 30 -- Motherhood is said to alter everything. However, I had no idea how brutally it would alter my marriage. Sheila is my name. I'm married, 29 years old, and a single mother. My husband, Michael, used to think I was the most beautiful woman alive before I had my kid. He would show me off to his friends, snap photographs of me while I wasn't looking, and never stop reminding me how fortunate he was.But when I had a birth, everything was different. I put on weight when I was pregnant. Nothing out of the ordinary, simply the regular course of bearing life. However, the praise ceased. The embraces grew aloof. All of a sudden, I was just "mama mtoto" and not the attractive lady he had married. I initially assumed he was simply worn out from work. Then, however, he began to make veiled remarks.
