Kenya, March 9 -- Bishop Edward Mwai, founder of Jesus Winner Ministry, addressed a storm of controversy on Sunday, extending forgiveness to his detractors following a fierce social media backlash.
Speaking at his church in Roysambu, Nairobi, Mwai stated, "People went on social media and started attacking me; I was called terrible names. To all those who insulted me, I forgive them. Even those who claimed I stole land, I have forgiven them."
The remarks come in the wake of President William Ruto's pledge of a Ksh120 million donation to the ministry, which has ignited widespread public outrage and accusations of political favoritism.
Detractors have taken to social media to express their discontentment, with some alleging Mwai's church improperly obtained land earlier fought by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The statement of pardoning those who blamed him of stealing land refers to continuing confrontations with the Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) over land ownership, which Mwai proclaims his church legally purchased in 2018.
Mwai, undeterred by the objection, added a pointed assertion: "I know who was behind the bloggers. People will come to realise that there is a God at this altar. One more thing, someone who didn't know me before, knows me now."
Mwai now points fingers to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for causing him the trouble by sponsoring bloggers accross the country.
