Kenya, April 15 -- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that he feels his life is in danger because of supposed assassination attempts. Because of this, he has formally asked for his security team to be brought back.
In a letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Tuesday, Gachagua explained that he is worried about his safety and is asking for quick action to restore his protection.
Gachagua's statements have created different reactions on social media.
Some people are worried and are calling on the government to help keep him safe, while others think he might be trying to get sympathy or attention for political reasons.
In his letter, Gachagua did not give specific details about the supposed assassination attempts, and the police have not yet made any comments on the situation.
This news comes during a time of increased political tension, as Gachagua has remained a controversial figure since leaving office.
At this time, there is no official investigation into his claims, but the Inspector General's office is expected to respond to Gachagua's request soon.
