Kenya, March 21 -- Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been clearly rejected as the leader of Kenya's bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) sector following a national meeting of industry leaders.

This decision was announced today after many people criticised Sonko's claim to be a leader, saying he did not have the support of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya.

The association, which represents thousands of motorcycle taxi drivers across the country, said that Sonko's claim was not valid and did not follow the correct process.

Leaders in the bodaboda community pointed out that their organisation relies on trust and agreement among members, which they believe Sonko does not have, especially due to his past time as governor, which included serious accusations of wrongdoing.

In a statement after the meeting, the association said, "The bodaboda sector will not accept one person's claim of leadership. We fully reject Sonko's claim, and we stand together to protect the integrity of our industry."

Many riders and operators supported this announcement, expressing their relief and criticising Sonko's attempt on social media platforms.

Sonko, who has been a controversial figure since he left office, has not yet replied to the rejection.

His history of legal issues and flashy political style made many question if he was the right person to lead this important sector, which employs over a million Kenyans and is key to the country's transport system.

This rejection highlights the ongoing issues between official leadership and individual political goals within Kenya's informal economy.

As the bodaboda industry continues to grow, its leaders have promised to focus on unity and professionalism instead of what they call selfish attempts for power.
