Kenya, May 29 -- Engineers in Nairobi are facing big problems with delays and failures in the county's online planning system. This system was meant to make getting construction approvals easier by allowing everything to be done online.

However, the system often has issues. Sometimes, it doesn't recognise users' credentials, document uploads do not go through, and even after paying the required fees, applicants can experience total system failures with no updates or information about their applications' status.

Because of this lack of communication, engineers and their clients must go to City Hall in person, which defeats the purpose of having a digital service.

At a meeting of the Nairobi County Assembly's Planning Committee, Shammah Kiteme, the President of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), said that these system failures have led to many problems, including bribery and inefficiency.
