Kenya, July 7 -- Police are placed in important areas of Eldoret city because many businesses are closed due to the expected Saba Saba protests.

Many police officers have gone to places where there were large protests during the Gen Z protests. They are watching over areas like Huruma, Kipkaren, Kamkunji, and Maili Nne estates, where protests have been very strong recently.

Uasin Gishu County police commander Benjamin Mwanthi has promised the people in the area that they will have safety, so businesses can go on as usual.

"We ask everyone to keep the peace so daily life can continue," said Mwanthi. He also said his officers are ready to step in to make sure security is kept in the area.

Many businesses that usually open early in the morning are closed now, with security guards posted, especially in the city center.

Some businesses in Eldoret's central area are closed because people are worried about the Saba Saba protests.

A shop owner named Paul Kiptoo, who sells mobile phones, said he is concerned for his safety and will wait to see how things go before opening his shop.

"We hope things will stay calm and that there will not be any violent protests like last time," Kiptoo said.

Some schools in the town did not start classes on Monday because parents kept their children at home, worried about their safety.

Reports say that security teams from other parts of the region have come to Eldoret to help improve safety in the area.
