Kenya, Aug. 8 -- The corpse of a man who died mysteriously allegedly sat upright inside the coffin and identified the person who poisoned him before collapsing again, turning a bizarre burial ceremony into a horrific scene that sent residents of Otonglo village in Kisumu into a state of holy panic and chaos on Wednesday morning.
When mourners gathered around the grave and heard strange whimpering sounds coming from inside the wooden casket, what had started out as a typical funeral procession swiftly descended into confusion. Some screamed, others fainted, and some fled in fear, believing the deceased had refused to be buried.
The body of 39-year-old Joash Odhiambo, who had passed away a week earlier after expressing disappointment about stomach pains and vomiting blood, was being lowered into the grave when the coffin's lid mysteriously flipped open. The deceased purportedly raised his right hand and pointed directly at a man in the crowd while loudly highlighting his full name, according to witnesses, including the local assistant chief.
