Kenya, March 10 -- Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba has achieved a remarkable milestone as his iconic 2008 track, "Mpempem Do Me," secures a coveted spot on His Majesty King Charles III's Apple Music playlist.
The playlist, unveiled today in celebration of Commonwealth Day, showcases a diverse selection of music from across the Commonwealth, personally curated by the British monarch.
The inclusion of "Mpempem Do Me" places Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, alongside global music icons such as Bob Marley, Beyonce, and Davido, highlighting the enduring appeal of Ghanaian highlife on the international stage.
Released as part of his album Sika, the song's infectious rhythm and heartfelt lyrics have long resonated with fans, amassing over 1.4 million views on YouTube since its upload four years ago.
King Charles III, known for his appreciation of cultural diversity, recorded personal introductions for the playlist at Buckingham Palace, emphasising music's power to connect and uplift.
"Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me," the King said in a statement.
"It brings us joy and takes us to distant places." His selection of "Mpempem Do Me" reflects a nod to Ghana, a Commonwealth nation he last visited in 2018, where he reportedly found himself "dancing along" to the track.
Netizens on social media erupted with pride following the announcement. Fans hailed Daddy Lumba's global recognition, with one user declaring, "At this point, Daddy Lumba is bigger than Michael Jackson; it's just the language barrier."
The playlist, titled The King's Music Room, aired at 6 a.m. today and is available on demand with an Apple Music subscription.
This royal endorsement further cements Daddy Lumba's legacy as a trailblazer in African music, bridging cultural gaps and bringing Ghanaian artistry to the world's attention.
The artist has yet to publicly comment on the honour, but anticipation is high for his response to this historic moment.
