Kenya, June 30 -- The High Court has ordered Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Amin Mohammed to bring back missing activist and blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia to court. Kinyagia has been missing for 10 days.
Justice Chacha Mwita gave this order on Monday, June 30, 2025, after a request from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Kinyagia disappeared on June 21, just before demonstrations planned for June 25 to honour those who were affected by protests in June 2024.
The court said keeping Kinyagia missing for so long is not allowed by law. According to Article 49 of the Kenyan Constitution, a person who is arrested must be brought to court within 24 hours.
Kinyagia had shared plans for protests online, including a march to State House, leading many to believe he was targeted because of his activism.
Various human rights groups, such as Amnesty Kenya and KHRC, have spoken out against this situation, calling it an enforced disappearance.
People on social media are using the hashtag #FreeNdianguiKinyagia to call for his release and to hold the police responsible for his disappearance.
IG Kanja and DCI Amin must follow the court order by Tuesday, or they might face more legal problems.
