Kenya, March 10 -- A man named Collins Leitich, also known as Chepkulei, has been arrested for setting up an illegal police patrol base in Cherus Centre, Kesses Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, three years ago.
Collins lives in Asia Village, Ndugulu Location. He was caught after local authorities investigated this illegal operation, which had gone unnoticed by the National Police Service (NPS) until recently.
Police reports say that Collins not only started this fake patrol base but also painted a Probox vehicle in the colours of the Administration Police and added a siren to it.
He used this vehicle to make unauthorized arrests, tricking people and possibly taking money from them while pretending to be a real police officer.
The community is shocked by this discovery, wondering how it stayed hidden for so long.
The fake patrol base was set up in a rented building at Cherus Centre and was painted like a real police station to look official.
Police from Kamuyu Police Post, under Kondoo Police Station, recorded the incident on March 8, 2025, after local people reported it.
This case is noted as OB04/08/03/2025, and investigations are ongoing to see how many people might have been affected by Collins' actions.
Police officials are upset about this situation and want to find out if Collins had any help or connections within the police that allowed him to run this operation for three years.
Collins is still in custody while authorities look into why he did this and how far his illegal activities went.
Residents have been asked to share any information about their experiences with the fake patrol base or the modified Probox vehicle.
