Kenya, March 16 -- Peter K, the embattled preacher of Christ Impact Church in Ruiru, was arrested today in Nakuru after evading authorities since accusations of sodomy surfaced against him in 2022.

Nakuru East Police Commander Sheila Kegode confirmed the arrest, marking the end of a high-profile manhunt that intensified in recent weeks.

The preacher, who had been on the run for over two years, was apprehended in a hideout in Nairobi early Sunday morning before being transported to Nakuru for processing.

Kegode told reporters, "He was finally smoked out from his hideout. We brought him to Nakuru, where the alleged crime occurred, and he will face the courts tomorrow."

The arrest also netted an alleged accomplice, whose identity and relationship to Peter K remain undisclosed pending further investigation.

The case stems from a 2022 incident reported by a tuk-tuk driver, who claimed Peter K lured him with drinks before assaulting him.

A medical report from Nakuru Level Five Hospital corroborated the allegations, showing evidence of sexual abuse.

Public outrage erupted earlier this month when a mob raided the preacher's church in Ruiru on March 1, vandalizing property and demanding justice.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on March 3, but Peter K had eluded capture until now.

Kegode declined to elaborate on why the suspect evaded arrest for so long, though sources suggest he had been moving between locations to avoid detection.

The preacher and his accomplice are slated to appear in court on Monday, March 17, where they will face charges related to the sodomy allegations.

Netizens reflected a mix of relief and anger among Kenyans, with some calling it a "long-overdue reckoning" for the controversial figure.
