Kenya, April 11 -- Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei says the Kenya Kwanza Government is planning to impeach Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya before the year ends.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has stirred controversy by alleging that the Kenya Kwanza government is orchestrating a plan to impeach Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya before the end of 2025.
The outspoken senator made the claim today, intensifying political tensions in the region.
Cherargei, a vocal ally of the ruling coalition, did not provide specific details or evidence to support his assertion but suggested the move is tied to Natembeya's outspoken criticism of the government.
"The plan is in motion to remove him before the year ends," Cherargei reportedly said, sparking immediate backlash from Natembeya's supporters.
Governor Natembeya, elected on the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) ticket, has been a prominent figure in Western Kenya politics, often clashing with Kenya Kwanza leaders over issues like resource allocation and alleged abductions.
In response, Natembeya dismissed the claim as "political noise" aimed at derailing his work for Trans Nzoia residents.
"Let them come. I'm focused on serving my people, not fighting shadows," he told supporters in Kitale.
The allegation has fuelled speculation about deepening rifts within Kenya's political landscape, with some analysts suggesting it reflects broader power struggles ahead of the 2027 elections.
Natembeya's vocal stance and perceived national ambitions have made him a polarising figure, drawing both support and opposition.
Trans Nzoia County Assembly, which would initiate any impeachment process, has commented officially on Cherargei's remarks.
Social media platforms are buzzing with reactions, with hashtags supporting Natembeya trending among his base.
