Kenya, July 27 -- When you are in love, you often ignore the warning signs. This is what I have learnt. You overlook the things that don't feel right. You think it's your fault for asking too many questions. You tell yourself that love means being patient, even when it hurts a lot inside. I loved a man who claimed he had no one in his life. No family. No roots. No past.

But when I went to his funeral, I discovered he had everything, including a wife and three children. My name is Njeri, and this is my story about feeling trapped in my emotions. We met at a car rental shop in Nairobi. He was charming and quiet and gave many compliments. He told me he was a consultant who worked between Kigali and Nairobi. We connected right away.
