Kenya, Feb. 22 -- Booker Omole, an activist and political leader, has made a strong statement about making the economy fairer. He believes that to truly fight poverty, society must focus on helping the majority of people instead of just the wealthy few.
Omole, who is well-known in Kenya for his leftist views and is a member of the Communist Party of Kenya, spoke at a community meeting in Nairobi on Friday evening.
He shared his concerns with supporters and residents, criticising government policies that he says mainly benefit rich people.
He stated, "To beat poverty, we don't need charity or promises that wealth will trickle down. We need to put the needs of most people first, rather than supporting a small group of wealthy elites."
He called for important changes, such as sharing wealth more evenly, improving access to education and healthcare, and protecting workers' rights to help the working class and those who feel neglected.
His comments come at a time when many people in Kenya are discussing the large gaps between the rich living in cities and the poor in rural areas.
Omole pointed out that rising living costs and low wages show that the system is unfair to ordinary citizens.
He urged leaders to stop believing that catering to the rich will solve the country's problems.
Many people reacted quickly to Omole's speech. Supporters praised him for focusing on solutions that help everyday people, with some sharing his message on social media.
On the other hand, critics called his ideas unrealistic, saying that economic growth needs investments from wealthy individuals and businesses.
Omole's speech is part of his ongoing effort to promote a socialist approach to address Kenya's economic issues.
While no government officials have responded yet, his statement is expected to lead to more discussions as policy debates come up in the National Assembly.
Experts think his words will appeal to his supporters while facing challenges from others, as the country thinks about its economic future. More updates are expected as Omole continues to push for significant changes.
