Kenya, March 9 -- Apostle Michael Mband of Ransomed of the Lord Church has reignited controversy with a scathing critique of opposition leader Raila Odinga's recent handshake with President William Ruto.
In a sermon delivered on Sunday that's already making waves online, the outspoken pastor accused Odinga of mishandling consultations around the political deal, declaring it a betrayal of public trust.
"You should consult the people, create a document-not the other way round like Raila did to people," Mband thundered to his congregation, suggesting Odinga prioritized the agreement over genuine public input.
The remarks, dubbed a "banger" by supporters, mark the latest chapter in Mband's vocal opposition to the Ruto-Odinga alliance, which was formalized on March 7 after months of unrest following deadly anti-government protests.
Mband, who has previously criticized the duo for their political manoeuvring, argued that Odinga's decision to join forces with Ruto undermines the sacrifices of Kenyans who protested against the administration.
"Raila must think we're fools," he added, echoing sentiments from posts on social media where he's praised for maintaining the church's integrity amid what some call a "sellout" by other religious leaders.
The handshake, seen by analysts as Ruto's bid to consolidate power, has drawn mixed reactions, with Odinga insisting it's a move to stabilize the nation.
