Kenya, April 22 -- Tanzanian singer Nandy, known as "The African Princess," has revealed she was paid KSh 50 million (approximately TZS 827 million) for a brief performance at a high-profile wedding in Kenya.
The claim, shared via social media, has sparked widespread discussion about the lucrative nature of celebrity performances at private events.
The wedding, reportedly that of Zakir Khosla, son of Mombasa tycoon Imran Khosla, took place on December 21, 2024, in Mombasa.
The lavish Arabic-themed ceremony attracted Kenya's elite, including President William Ruto, and featured performances by Nandy, Diamond Platnumz, and D Voice.
Nandy, who arrived at the venue in a Bentley Bentayga under tight security, performed for just 10 minutes, wearing a striking red gown, according to sources.
Nandy expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting the payment was a significant milestone.
"This is no joke," she remarked, highlighting the event's prestige and her role in representing Tanzania.
Fans praised her performance and elegant appearance, while some questioned the accuracy of earlier reports suggesting she earned KSh 45 million.
The revelation underscores the growing trend of East African artists commanding substantial fees for private gigs, with Diamond Platnumz reportedly earning KSh 128 million at the same event.
However, the figures have raised eyebrows, with netizens speculating about the source of such funds amid Kenya's economic challenges.
As Nandy continues to dominate the Bongo Flava scene, her record-breaking payout cements her status as one of the region's top earners, further fueling debates about wealth, entertainment, and exclusivity in East Africa's social circles.
