CANBERRA, ACT, Sept. 29 -- Murray-Darling Basin Authority issued the following news release:

The likelihood of water quality issues is typically lowest across cooler months.

* Harmful algal blooms: Algae can pose a risk to the health of humans, animals and the environment.

Blue-green algae levels are currently elevated across much of the Basin's rivers/storages including in the north, the NSW central west, mid-Murray systems, and VIC's central north.

A marine algal species (Karenia mikimotoi) remains present in SA's Coorong but is not currently blooming.

Water quality within the Basin is monitored by individual States. Any site-specific alerts, warnings or advisories are issued by those respective States.
