CANBERRA, ACT, Sept. 17 -- Australian Federal Police issued the following media release:
The AFP has charged a detainee at the Melbourne Immigration Detention Centre (MIDC) in Victoria for allegedly assaulting detention security officers on two separate occasions.
The man, 22, from South Sudan, allegedly assaulted two male officers on 29 August, 2025. He allegedly punched the first security officer in an unprovoked attack, then struck the second when he attempted to intervene. Both suffered bruises to the face and received medical assistance as a result of the alleged incident.
