Belconnen, ACT, Sept. 19 -- ACT Policing issued the following media release:
A 51-year-old western Sydney man has been charged with fraud after allegedly defrauding more than $42,000 from a woman through a visa scam.
In January 2021 the 51-year-old met a 34-year-old woman who was residing in Australia on a student visa. Police will allege the man told the woman he could help her obtain an Australian visa.
From January 2021 to September 2021 the woman engaged with the man and fake associates created by him, to deceive and defraud her. The woman made 29 deposits to him totalling more than $42,000.
The woman attended City Police Station in December 2021 to report the incident and subsequently an investigation into the fraud scam began.
