Guwahati, Dec. 14 -- The intense mass protests that had Assam and the Northeast in its grip for the past few days sends out the signal loud and clear that the people are not going to be cowed down by the Centre's insensitive handling of the burning issues of the region. The public resentment against the now amended Citizenship Act will understandably continue but the leadership of the organizations spearheading the movement such as the AASU and the NESO needs to ensure that the public angst does not spiral into violence as was witnessed in the past two days when normal life in the capital city of Guwahati came to a grinding halt.
