SHILLONG, April 7 -- The Shillong Muslim Union (SMU) has announced that Muslims will not congregate and hold prayers at local mosques on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on April 9.

"The management committee of various Masjids and the management committee of the graveyards have unanimously decided not to hold Ibadat in the Masjid and Ziyarat in Kabristan due to the COVID-19 pandemic," SMU general secretary Sayeedullah Nongrum said in a statement issued here.

Instead, the SMU has issued an appeal that people should pray in their homes for the human race to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
