GUWAHATI, July 12 -- Terming lockdown counterproductive, former Chief Minister Tarun said the extension of lockdown will bring only more hardship to the common people.
'Lockdown imposed in different parts of Assam, including Guwahati city, has proved to be counterproductive in containing the novel coronavirus pandemic. Despite strict lockdown, the number of positive patients has been increasing by leaps and bound along with the number of deaths. Besides, the lockdown has also brought immense hardship to the poor and common people who are losing jobs and livelihoods,' said the senior Congress leader.
He alleged that there is massive inflation, and spiralling prices of essential commodities have hurt the poor and middle classes badly.
