Guwahati, April 18 -- A squall with a speed of around 68 km per hour lashed western, central and southern parts of the State in the wee hours on Thursday, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Among the worst hit were dwelling houses, trees, and power supply infrastructure. The advent of Spring in the region is invariably marked by squalls ' popularly known as Bordoisila in Assamese folklore. Legend has it that Bordoisila, a young married woman who visits her mother during this time of the year, causes the destruction in her haste to reach her mother.
