GUWAHATI, Sept. 24 -- At a time when accredited social health activists (ASHA) are playing a vital role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, a city-based ASHA worker, who recently received serious injuries in an incident of acid attack, is now battling for her life at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The acid attack took place on September 21 in Fatasil Ambari area. According to police, one Kartik Biswas threw acid on her during the evening hours of the day. She received multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, a source stated that the staff of the hospital where she had been taken immediately after the incident, denied her admission in the hospital citing the pandemic and discharged her after preliminary treatment.
