Washington, Aug. 23 -- Expressing "deeply concerned by the appointment of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as Army Commander", the United States Ambassador in Sri Lanka Alaina Teplitz in the embassy-released statement further noted "the allegations of gross human rights violations against him are serious and credible" while referring to UN and other international reports on the final stage of the battle between Sri Lanka's military and the fighting cadre of the Tamil Tigers.
