Colombo, Aug. 21 -- New members have been appointed to the National Sports Council to boost the field of sports in Sri Lanka.

Upon invitation from Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Namal Rajapaksa, the freshly-appointed members of the council held its inaugural meeting yesterday (20).

The 14-member council is chaired by former Sri Lankan cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene.

It consists of 13 other professionals in multiple fields who had contributed to revamp and revive sports culture locally and internationally.

The other members of the National Sports Council are as follows:
