Sweden, Aug. 22 -- In a dramatic turn of events, former Union minister P. Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from from his Jor Bagh residence in New Delhi on Wednesday night, about an hour after the senior Congress leader after made a dramatic appearance at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters and addressed reporters at the party office.

The whereabouts of the former finance minister remained unknown for close to 27 hours, before he appeared at the Congress office, with federal probe agencies issuing a lookout notice against him and the Supreme Court refusing an urgent hearing of his petition to prevent arrest.
