New Delhi, April 19 -- The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged protests in several parts of the country against the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the violence that took place in Murshidabad on April 11. The violence broke out during a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and called for the imposition of President's rule in the state.
In Siliguri, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP) stopped a VHP protest march that was held against the attack on Hindus in Murshidabad. Protesters demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and also called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe.
