Washington, Dec. 31 -- Tensions continued to rise between the United States and China in 2023, despite the meeting between US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in November and high-level visits by Biden administration officials to China.

Some of the issues that have contributed to the tensions include the visit of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan last year and labour practices in Xinjiang. The US believes China uses forced labour in the Xinjiang region. The two nations tried to ease differences on trade and the Taiwan and Ukraine-Russia war as both Washington and Beijing engaged in tit-for-tat actions.
