Nagaon, May 17 -- Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday lauded the role of self-help groups (SHGs) in empowering women under the Aajeevika Mission in Assam, highlighting the impact of government schemes on grassroots development.

Speaking in Nagaon, Chouhan said, "I met the sisters of the self-help group under the Aajeevika Mission. Economic empowerment of women is happening rapidly. I would also like to thank the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam that under their guidance the work of Aajeevika Mission is going on very well here. Self-help groups are doing very good work here, lakhs of didis are associated with them."
