New Delhi, Dec. 16 -- The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, 2025, places nuclear power at the centre of India's long-term energy planning, with the government seeking to overhaul the legal framework that governs the sector. Likely to be introduced in the Lok Sabha this week, the Bill proposes to repeal the Atomic Energy Act, 1962 and the Civil Liability to Nuclear Damage Act, 2010, and replace them with a single, unified law for nuclear energy.
