Texas, Jan. 4 -- : Chronic conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, usually require lifelong injections. Patients skip doses due to needle phobia, injection-associated infection, and pain, which encourages the development of new delivery strategies that combine efficacy with minimal side effects in order to adequately treat patients.

Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine and collaborating institutions have explored a better way of delivering medications that does not require injections but could be as easy as swallowing a pill. The study appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
