Islamabad, Feb. 19 -- Mirpurkhas district in Sindh is emerging as a new hotspot for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases among children, with 150 new cases reported in 2024, according to official statistics, Geo News reported.
This alarming rise has raised concerns, as the district now accounts for more than 26 per cent of the 568 pediatric HIV cases in Sindh last year. On average, 48 children have been diagnosed with HIV each month in the province, signalling a growing public health crisis.
Recent data from Sindh's health authorities shows that in 2024, 568 children in the province were diagnosed with HIV, with 78 boys and 72 girls from Mirpurkhas alone.
