New Delhi, April 27 -- The World Bank's recent report shows a significant drop in extreme poverty in India, with the government and opposition Congress both claiming credit for the improvement, as over 170 million people moved above the poverty line between 2011-12 and 2022-23.
According to a World Bank report, extreme poverty (defined as living on less than USD 2.15 per day) decreased from 16.2 per cent in 2011-12 to 2.3 per cent in 2022-23, lifting 171 million people in India above this threshold.
