Prayagraj, Feb. 14 -- The Uttar Pradesh police have taken action against 54 social media accounts for posting "misleading" content and "spreading rumors" regarding the ongoing 2025 Mahakumbh Mela, according to a police statement.

The police took special cognizance of two videos doing rounds on social media, which showed a fire incident in Egypt but were being linked to Mahakumbh. One of the videos was of an oil pipeline accident that happened in Egypt in 2020. The video was posted with the "misleading" description, "Mahakumbh bus stand caught fire, 40-50 vehicles burnt to ashes."

In response, a case was registered against seven social media accounts for "spreading rumors."
