Mumbai, Dec. 12 -- India's GI-tag craft, the iconic Kolhapuri chappals, are ready to go global, joining forces with Italian luxury fashion house Prada.
In a bid to take the legacy of India's traditional leather craft to the global stage, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Prada, Maharashtra's LIDCOM (Sant Rohidas Leather Industries & Charmakar Development Corporation), and Karnataka's LIDKAR (Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation), as per a press release.
The MoU, which leads the project "Prada Made in India - Inspired by Kolhapuri Chappals", was signed at the Italian Consulate in Mumbai during the Italy-India Business Council meeting.
