New Delhi, Dec. 12 -- India is entering a pivotal phase in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) deployment, with demand expected to rise sharply in the coming years even as the country works to overcome deep structural barriers in manufacturing, technology integration and supply-chain resilience, according to a sector update by Nuvama Institutional Equities.

The report highlights that India currently has about 0.5 GWh of operational BESS capacity and a pipeline of 68 GWh, but this is projected to surge to 236 GWh by 2032. and further to 1,840 GWh by 2047. Battery pack costs have already declined 84 per cent over the last decade and are expected to fall by another one-third by 2030.
