Washington DC, Jan. 20 -- The East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) on January 19 marked East Turkistan / Uyghur Genocide Recognition and Remembrance Day, observing the fifth anniversary of the United States Department of State's formal recognition of China's actions in Occupied East Turkistan as genocide and crimes against humanity.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, ETGE recalled that on January 19, 2021, the United States officially determined that the People's Republic of China was committing genocide and crimes against humanity against Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in Occupied East Turkistan, also referred to as Xinjiang.
