Indian Ocean, Nov. 27 -- An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km, making it susceptible to aftershocks.
In a post on X, the NCS said, "EQ of M: 5.3, On: 27/11/2025 11:02:45 IST, Lat: 1.30 N, Long: 96.87 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Indian Ocean."

Earlier in the day, another earthquake of magnitude 6.4 rattled the region at a depth of 10km.
In a post on X, the NCS said, "EQ of M: 6.4, On: 27/11/2025 10:26:25 IST, Lat: 2.99 N, Long: 96.23 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Indian Ocean."
