Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), May 24 -- : Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini on Friday won the Mathura Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,93,471 votes.

This is the second time the BJP candidate has retained her sway in the city of Hindi heartland.

Speaking to the media persons, the lawmaker said: "I knew I was going to win, but I did not fathom that I would win by this big margin. I would like to thank the people of Mathura and the nation."

On being asked about the loss of Congress in the states where they had a stronghold, she said: "It shows that they did not do any work."

Malini had contested against Narendra Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and local industrialist Mahesh Pathak of Congress from Mathura.
