New Delhi, April 8 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that courts are not supposed to do moral policing, while setting aside High Court order imposing Rs 10 lakh costs each on musician Vishal Dadlani and political activist Tehseen Poonawalla over certain tweets they posted in 2016 mocking a Jain monk.
In 2019, the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the criminal case filed against them but imposed costs on them. Dadlani and Poonawala had allegedly insulted Jain saint Tarun Sagar on Twitter.
Poonawala approached the apex court against the cost imposed on him by the High Court.
