New Delhi, Jan. 29 -- As the Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for diverting from "real issues" of a country, adding that government's job is to ensure peace, but they "ignite fire in the name of religion and caste."
The Congress leader hailed the top court's order striking down the new UGC regulations, which were challenged by various petitioners as arbitrary, exclusionary, discriminatory, and violative of the Constitution and the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
