Canberra, Aug. 8 -- Australia T20I captain Mitchell Marsh confirmed that they have locked in the opening pair in the lead up to next year's T20I World Cup, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

Australia will begin its preparations for the marquee event with a three-match T20I series against South Africa, scheduled to kick off on Sunday. Marsh confirmed that he will take the mantle to open Australia's batting order and will form a formidable pair with Travis Head.

During the 2021 T20 World Cup, Marsh featured in the number three spot, a move that proved to be a masterstroke. The burly all-rounder orchestrated a Player of the Match performance in the final to steer the Baggy Greens to their first T20 World Cup title.
